Revisiting Some Old Cases

Standard

As I take a breather from writing my book I took some time to go over some old files and revisit some cases that I covered.

Here is a quick version of three I covered.

The one that gets talked about the most is the Aaron Hernandez murder trial and eventual suicide.

I covered the first trial in which Hernandez was convicted of killing Odin Lloyd. I spent three months reporting on and writing about the trial until it’s conclusion. I felt it would be a slam dunk that he would be convicted and he was.

After the second trial I thought he had a 50-50 chance of getting off and he did.

Shortly after the second verdict Hernandez committed suicide in his jail cell. I was asked right away by many including national television to look into a possible murder. After months I could find no evidence of any conspiracy to kill Hernandez. It simply was a suicide.

I followed and covered the 1975 Martha Moxley murder case in which Michael Skakel was convicted of some 27 years after Moxley was found bludgeoned to death with a golf club.

After many years of court battles, investigations , books and articles Skakel was eventually freed and remains so today.

I maintained Skakel’s innocence from the beginning and was proven right.

My most frustrating case I have reported on is the killing of Daniel Underwood. I have spent the better part of eight years reporting on the case from articles to national television shows and continue to follow the story today.

In my investigation I have found multiple witnesses, a lot of forensic evidence that point to a cold blooded murder. The story has this writer, Daniel Underwood’s family and close friends very frustrated. The witnesses identified Rebecca Nelson as the shooter. She remains free to this day.

Hopefully with all the evidence there is a light at the end of the tunnel and someone from the Sulphur Springs Police Department in Texas will reopen the case.

Two Eyewitnesses Still Contend It Was Murder

Standard

Written By Joe Cochran

Nearly 12 years have passed since the killing of Daniel Underwood. It’s safe to say it was a murder with an eyewitness ( Maria Harvick) and another witness ( Ginnie Perry) to a confession to the cold blooded shooting of Underwood.

Yet the Sulphur Springs Police Department has yet to make an arrest.

I have been on this story since 2012 and reported on it for the Warner Brothers T.V. Show ” Crime Watch Daily”. Also in the meantime I have contacted several law enforcement officers who all concur without hesitation this is a murder.

Which led me then to the worlds leading pathologist Dr.Cyril Wecht who told me that the autopsy is incomplete. Wecht also has stated that there should have been gunshot residue on the right hand of Underwood.

But the local autopsy still lists this death as a suicide. It’s time the Sulphur Springs Prosecutor to get involved in this case.

Two wittinesses, multiple law enforcement officers and a tremendous pathologist all agree this was cold blooded murder.

( Rebecca Nelson)

Maria Harvick witnessed Rebecca Nelson fire the fatal shot that killed Underwood. What more does a prosecutor need? Nothing, but we also have a witness stating that Nelson bragged and confessed to the shooting and killing of Underwood. Ginnie Perry is on record as stating Nelson admitted the killing to her in a one on one conversation.

If Sulphur Springs will not act the Texas State Attorney should immediately.

Nelson is a dangerous criminal who has been arrested some 18 times. Underwood accused Rebecca Nelson of depleting his funds before he was fatally shot by Nelson.

What you have here is motive, means and opportunity plus two eyewitnesses, multiple law-enforcement officers and a renown pathologist who all point to murder. The time is now to make an arrest in the murder of Daniel Underwood.
